Life in Early Years
Our reception class is called, ‘Acorns’. We truly believe, from tiny acorns mighty oaks do grow. The children learn in a rich and stimulating environment. The foundation stage curriculum builds upon what the children already know and provides a balance of structured activities and independent exploration. The adults in the setting promote both the indoor and outdoor learning environments. Our children are encouraged to become independent learners by questioning, exploring, communicating and working together. The good progress made in early years, underpins all future learning.
At Bhylls Acre we are committed to raising standards through quality teaching and learning. Teachers encourage high expectations and lead by example. Our broad and balanced curriculum is planned to meet both the requirements of the National Curriculum and the individual needs of the child. Teachers plan their lessons carefully to ensure all children can access the learning. Every child can expect to be challenged; problem solving and independent enquiry are taught and encouraged across all areas of the curriculum.
We rigorously assess the progress of our pupils to ensure their development is matching their potential. Subject plans are regularly reviewed and school staff work together to ensure smooth transition between phases and year groups.
Our extensive outdoor environment supports our children’s learning and aids wellbeing. Children enjoy a secluded garden, sports pitches, a purpose built climbing wall and a fixed orienteering course. A sheltered pavilion is an ideal space to read and sketch
A wide range of extra-curricular activities are provided by teaching staff and outside providers. Bhylls Acre has a strong reputation for competitive sport, choir and dance. Children also enjoy athletics, multi-skills and craft. Science and Maths clubs build upon the children’s learning.
Clubs are changed termly and confirmation is made for the safe collection of your child.
Years 2 and 6 enjoy residential visits. All children are encouraged to join at least one club.
Bhylls Acre Primary School is indeed a family. The Governing Board work hard to support all staff and parents. A thriving PTFA organises a variety of events throughout the school year, monies raised are used to subsidise off-site visits and provide additional resources for our children.
Volunteers are always welcome whether it’s to hear readers or help in the garden. At Bhylls Acre, everyone matters.
