We have used the Primary School Sport Premium to enhance our provision by focusing on developing the coordination of PE and school sport, with Miss Edwards currently attending several training courses in order to support staff in school and develop their teaching of quality PE. We are also using Soccer 2000 to implement a range of activities which will enhance our overall sport’s curriculum. They are offering Physical Literacy Courses, Upskilling of school staff, Delivering CPD to staff and Sessions for parents and children centred around Healthy Living.
We have improved our lunchtime provision for physical activity by introducing play leaders, a sports coach and a member of staff , who all offer a host of extra curricular activities to the whole school. Our play leaders work with groups of children in activities such as netball, football, ball skills and tag games. Our designated member of staff offers activities such as archery and dance, also in addition, we use a Sports Plus Coach to further enhance and encourage phyisical activity for all pupils.
We have developed our extra-curricular opportunities and now offer a wider variety of clubs such as: Karate, Olympic Club, Soccer 2000 plus teacher led clubs. These are Netball, Football, Cross Country, Tag Rugby, Athletics, Dance and Zumba. Year 4 pupils have swimming lessons at a local pool with suitably qualified staff. This is tailored to their swimming ability and they have the opportunity to gain recognised swimming awards. During the year we also offer Top Up Swimming lessons for pupils in years 5 & 6 who have not yet mastered the ability to swim 25 metres.
Through the annual Year 6 residential visit to The Pioneer OEC children are able to take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges such as BMX, caving, climbing, abseiling, kayaking and orienteering.
